Vieng Haeng, Chaing Mai

Vieng Haeng

One hundred and fifty kilometers from the bustling metropolis of Chaing Mai lies a little-known northern district borderning Myanmar and Thailand. Nature at Vieng Haeng District is still relatively unspoiled; the woods are green and fertile, and rafting along the Mae Taeng River is a new adventure for tourists who visit Vieng Haean.

Vieng Haeng is home to many ethnic minorities who co-exist peacefully. The communities of Lisaw, Museu, Karen, L-kaw, Tai Yai and Haw, diverse thoung they may be, retain their unique customs and traditions. As civilization has yet to overtake the district, most people fallow a simple lifestyle making a living from agricuture.

Viewd from a high plateau on highway 1322, Vieng Haeng looks much like a second Mae Hong Son. At 700 meters above sea level, it enjoys a mild year-round climate but can be quite cold in winter. Pine trees generally line sides of the road, which, in perfect conditions, makes this sleepy district quite inaccessible to the outside world.
